Marie Filbin Elected to Fellow of AAAS - Biology

Bio Faulty Member Marie Filbin has been elected as a Fellow of the the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) This is an  honor bestowed upon members by their peers. Each year the Council elects members whose "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished.".

 

Neurobiologist Marie T. Filbin,  is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. Her research looks at the inhibiting function of the molecule MAG (myelin-associated glycoprotein) and all other inhibitors present in the myelin sheath that prevent the spinal cord from regenerating after injury. Her work has important long-term therapeutic potential for victims of spinal cord injuries.
