Professional Development Awards

The CTBR offers junior and senior research faculty professional development awards to increase productivity in publications and extramural awards, to refine and expand their research capabilities, and to enhance our research capacity.

Pilot Projects

The Pilot Project Award supports new and novel research that will strengthen the core areas of Cancer and Neuro/Behavioral Science and supports tenure track junior faculty with research funding and mentoring to improve their potential for transition to independent investigator status. The pilot projects will test research designs and collect preliminary data that will support successful applications for R- and K-type grant awards.

Expert Mentor

The Expert Mentor Award provides funds to junior or early career faculty to secure an outside expert mentor. These mentors meet monthly with the junior faculty and discuss pilot projects, developmental projects, and proposal development. The mentor's expert input helps to focus and improve the quality of major award applications.

Facility Service Fees

The Facility Service Fees Award provides researchers with facility services at CTSA institutions that are not available at the CTBR that will complement current studies and help align the applicant’s research with CTBR core research areas and overall goals.

The Mini-Sabbatical Award allows researchers to travel to a remote laboratory to learn and/or to refine new and highly competitive research methodologies to apply to current and future research. The award supports approximately one month of travel and other expenses.

Grant Writing

The Professional Grant Writer Award provides funds to researchers to consult with a professional grant writer to assist in editing funding proposals for logic, flow, and style. This award can be used for assistance on any type of grant application (NIH R- and K-type, NSF, etc.).
