How to Apply to SPUR

Application Deadline: February 1 by 5pm EST, Annually

If you are applying through the Leadership Alliance, please use the online application located on their website.

During the application process you will need to provide:

  1. Top choices for potential mentors. Before beginning an application, please review the research opportunities in faculty laboratories on our two research tracks: DRUG ABUSE AND NEUROSCIENCE  and  GENERAL BIOMEDICINE.
  2. Names and email addresses for two people who will provide letters of recommendation
  3. Electronic version of your unofficial college transcript (if scanned hard copies of electronic transcripts are not available). If you have more than one college transcript, scan and combine them into one pdf file. Hard copies mailed to the SPUR Coordinator will not be accepted.
  4. Personal essay describing:
  • How your participation in SPUR would contribute to your future goals and career plans.
  • Which area(s) of research interest you.
  • Any previous research experience you've had, if any.
  • Social interests

 

Selection Process

Selection and laboratory/mentor placement will take place during February and March. We will select a total of 10 undergraduate students for the summer program. These applicants will receive an invitation via email to join SPUR/SPUR-DAN and must reply with his/her acceptance by the deadline indicated in the communication.

Applicants who are not placed will be notified via email by the end of April.
